How did you interpret the inspiration and design brief for this scarf?

When Sarah Flint reached out to me, discussed the project, and showed me the reference images, I could more or less envision the initial design of the scarf. The dizzying elegance of Topkapı Palace tiles, the vibrant, glossy surfaces adorned with shades of gold, earth tones, and navy blue, and the uniquely beautiful motifs were the elements I wanted to emphasize in the design. I was thrilled to create a design that matched that same enthusiasm, richness, and elegance.

Can you share a bit about your creative process or techniques you used while bringing it to life?

I applied traditional art design and production techniques directly in the conceptual and implementation stages of the design. After determining the motifs and patterns to be included in the scarf design, I carefully selected the stencils and colored them on paper with paints I had prepared. Finally, I digitally prepared the draft of the scarf design I had previously prepared for printing, incorporating the stencils I had colored into the design.

What tools or materials were essential in creating the design?

Getting the results I want from the prints of the sheets I painted is a stage I care about. I took care to use the same quality paint and paper I always use.

Do you have a favorite detail or element in the scarf that feels especially “you”?

The Saz Style pattern I designed for this scarf, featuring curled, intertwined leaves with vegetal motifs and stylized flowers converging toward the center, was a detail I liked and wanted to add movement to the design.

How do you imagine people styling or wearing this piece?

The primary emphasis of this design's patterns and colors is to be bold and stylish with a regal flair. Adding other colors and accessories to it will not be easy. A sophisticated, chic silhouette can be created over tone on tone combinations.
